Mechanically bonded only 

The cooler assembly is disassembled and steam cleaned and gasket surfaces are thoroughly cleaned. 

The top and bottom flanges are thoroughly cleaned, all gasket surfaces and threads are prepared and checked. 

The core is steam cleaned and combed where needed.  After the core is assembled to the flanges, the assembly is pressure tested for leaks. 

The housing is applied and ready for installation to the locomotive.
